The following pages will illustrate recent school refurbishment projects and show how we can sympathetically modernise buildings to the latest standards, thermally, environmentally, acoustically and with enhanced security, without compromising the original fenestration and design of the building envelope.
Queensbridge Road School - Queensbridge Road, London, E8
A mixture of opening-in casements and box sash frames were produced for this school, originally built in the early 1900’s. A complete refurbishment with modern extension was undertaken during 2008/09. MH joinery was instrumental at the design stage with architects Rivington Street Studios and Hackney Conservation, in London. Over 250 purpose made windows and doors were supplied fully finished to main contractor Quinn London.
Annette Road infant’s school was converted into luxury apartments by Crest Residential Homes. MH Joinery were appointed to manufacture like for like replacements with high acoustic reducing sealed units and the ability to clean all windows from inside the property.
During the summer term of 2007, through architects Pelling Associates, MH joinery were tasked with supplying specialised frames to be fitted within an eight week holiday window. Designed using traditional pulley and weights operation, the top inward opening frames were adapted to open using a Teleflex winder system.
Originally a primary school built in 1908, the building was refurbished and converted into luxury flats in 2007 by Crest Homes. Our second project of this kind with Crest, and similar to Annette Road, architects Chassay & Last again specified sound reducing glazing and windows which are cleanable from the inside of the property.
